I've been teaching people to drive since February 2009 and I've been an avid car enthusiast ever since I can remember. The goal of this channel is to make all my motoring knowledge available to the public. I make videos on both learning to drive and motoring in general to help you pass your test and become a savvy driver.

Don't Top Off Your Fuel Tank - Large Potential Repair Bill
Topping off your fuel tank with petrol can cause damage to your Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP) leading to an expensive repair bill. In this video I explain why.

Driving Test Pass with Commentary - Did he Undertake? - Difficult Route - Very Wet
I only carry the petrol i need. Why carry all that fuel if I don’t need it. More fuel, more weight, more fuel used, no!?
First world problems
I've been driving since 1983 and going to fuel up is a pet hate of mine so when the need arises, I ALWAYS brim it to the max every time, I can't stand putting in 10 or 20 quid at a time....... and in 41 years, I've never had a problem .
Because people are stoopid.
The explanation on the clutch and engine stopping was a 10/10
'topping off" is peak boomer behaviour.
as an old school stick driver, handbrake is my assistant for a hill start. 😁👍
Every southamerican driver with proper mountains in their city 🤣🤣🤣🤣: wtf is this 😂😂 you call this uphill? Jajajajajaja
08:12 did you oversteer
I don't have that problem. I usually can only afford to put £5 in 😁
I never really had an instructor teach me how to drive manual, just a friend from work who wanted to help me out. As I started working on learning and not stalling so frequently I found out that adding gas and then lifting the clutch was so much easier for me. Now fast forward to now and looks like I was spot on with what I was doing when first learning, I'm still very fresh to driving manual but looks like I'm down the right path.
Excellent video
I always read the little owners manual that comes with every single brand new car (and often comes with used cars, unless a previous idiot owner removed it and threw it away). I have read in those owners handbooks, that it says NOT to fill a car's petrol tank right full up...UNLESS you are going to immediately be driving for at least 50 kilometres/30 miles or so, without switching off the engine. (Which obviously allows several litres to be consumed, allowing air space into the top of the tank).
How to avoid a car from going backwards when trying to go forward from a stop? That’s my struggle
This is really interesting. Louvred lights are not a thing in my country, this video is the first time I see them. I'd be confused as hell if I saw this stuff while driving.
And they are installed so badly and incorrectly that they are a total PITA and mean some are not seen until too late
Great video, straight and to the point and actually answers the title.
my fuel hole flap says "fill up to 3 clicks" on it or something along those lines and i always follow it, wait a bit after the clicks to continue filling but not so long that the pump shuts off
Thanks for this useful information I have not heard of this potential problem I won't be topping off again😇
12:26 - What if they don’t move over and are one of the ever-growing army of oblivious drivers who do not notice vehicles over/undertaking them on both sides for miles on end? Yes, point taken, never ‘weave’ to undertake the middle-lane hoggers but staying in the left-hand driving lane doing the speed limit will get you past hundreds upon hundreds of cars, especially around London. As a 3rd generation Pakistani driver, I am well towed with the Highway Code but I am concerned for newer generations because there is nothing in our preferred media to guide them.
I’m watching these and they are great for anything I felt I need more help after my lessons like cleared up
Clicked on this to see if it is any other than the obvious reason.
What about them traffic lights being so bright, and if you're lorry driver sitting higher then the car driver, driving through the night, and you have that green just beaming right in your face so you see all green nothing else around you😂 please reduce the brightnes of those new traffic lights
One reason not mentioned here that i sometimes do, despite being otherwise quite good on rules. Dual carriageways where i know theres a blind junction ahead, ill go into lane 2 if its clear just to ensure any merging traffic has a clear lane. I know a few area's on my route to work where the junction has next to no acceleration lane, or is otherwise hard to see a car that doesnt come to a stop - thus if its clear, ill go into the 2nd lane just to give space to the junction and merge back. Effectively as if i am overtaking a potential car, rather than one thats actually there. I wouldnt do this in front of other traffic however.
It would be a cool challange to do this in an older car with simple carburetor. You would have to modulate gas more to not flood the engine.
I pass middle lane hoggers on the left on motorways fairly often, safely though. As far as I’m concerned I’m simply only going faster. An undertake is passing on the left, then moving to the right; as overtaking is the reverse. Simply passing on the left is not undertaking. Says me
Even though I am not much of a car person, the complexity of engineering behind cars never ceases to amaze me. Such complex mechanisms for everything. 😮
I passed yesterday!
Very well explained 👍👍 Thanks
Also, the more fuel you have in your car, the more is total weight, and the worse is acceleration and fuel economy. Depending on the car, a tank of fuel can be equivalent to a whole passenger.
I passed my driving test today . Your videos helped me a lot. Thanks a lot....
My fuel tank sometimes clicks while being filled up even when it's just half full, just randomly it clicks. Surely I can ignore it at that point
So diesel is okay?

Why tf did she have her foot on the clutch THE WHOLE TIME… failed…
Nope
You seem incredibly patient Richard! Do you ever get frustrated or impatient with a pupil who is close to the exam date and not being in line with tye progress that you where anticipating? I started quite late, 43 now and have spend about 6000 euro in an attempt to get my drivers license in the Netherlands. I know I am not the easiest , have 50 mins a week and am driving with an instructor that seems to be to emotionally involved or something. Getting quite frustrated with my lesser days/moments. Kicking in a bad forecast during the lessons. I'm losing self-esteem and joy overall. He has a very decent pass raring of 80%, however, tough students mainly. I am becoming very much loss for hope on passing again. Am I demanding or asking to much patience from my instructor, cab they show obvious emotion/frustration on you lesser days? Last week I was well rested and the lesson went good, today was quite the opposite, again... although i try everything to prepare well mentally, shower and take some rest in advance 😞 What is your or anyone's take on this? I feel so bad today
This is what did me in on my test. Not the pulling away. But the spot the examiner has specified had a wheelie bin next to it. It was a few inches back from the curb so didn't think much of it, but the top was much wider than the base and it was leaning a bit. By parking a car's width away from the car in front and a drain's width from the curb, I clipped the wing mirror on the bin. Serious fault: steering.
In many countries, this is flat 😂
Why would you buy an electric car in the first place , when petrol and diesel work so well.
I've been topping off since June 1977 no probs. A few dead mice in my garage, but that's all.
Undertaking has a few definitions. And none of them are that. THAT is overtaking on the inside. And is stupid
I've heard that rev matching is especially helpful in heavier vehicles (lorries and buses kind of heavier) due to just how large the forces involved are, the clutches wear down especially fast. Can't say I've ever been behind the wheel of one though, no firsthand experience to back that up
All white van drivers should be forced to do a mock test, some years after passing.
*NONSENSE*
😂😂😂😂 the way I feel violated watching this video. the inner monologue with the sound effects, the accuracy of all the thoughts, it's like you're pulling them right out of my head....I know 2 things for sure: [1] you've been there and done that. [2] you've come a long way on your journey as a driving instructor. If I hadn't already subscribed, this would have been the video that finally gets me to do so, thumbs up for this great clip.... sensational.
Another trouble with these modern cars - much better to revert to a screw-on chrome cap with a pin hole in it.
